special ( I )
i was waddling, limping every step. A box of Texas 5 in my bag, it was like my personal friend, now. Wrong? ya, if i was a bystander, me a few months ago. But i guess it aint always that straightforward.
I am Ray, 20 year old male Singaporean, serving the mandatory National Service (the army). My life has always been less than ordinary, than again, just about any other guy on the street would think the same way. Yet, i stick to my stuborn thoughts - i am special.
How many times have you been close to death? As an infant i was stung by a wasp (kinda deserved it because i was playing with it, or so i was told). Try imagining reaching out for a big fat juicy bug, yuck. A frenzy ensured and i was in a hospital. Years later, some very bad haze blanketed the SouthEast Asian region and sent me down on my back... To the extent that i could hear the trickling of water in my lungs when i turned my side (asthma). Scary? ya i was scared. Hospital again, ER in fact.
Hmm.. not impossible enough? I fell out of a car once in my life before. One moment i was leaning against the door, the next i was on the floor. Stinging pain, warm blood oozing, just a memory.
What if... what if one day you realised that you had a life less than ordinary, clouded by supernatural occurances most choose to turn a blind eye to. My imagination? maybe. But it sure sucks to feel a hand stretch out and grab you, when there is no hand to the eye. Of how about feeling safe n warm under your own blanket in your very own room and WHAM, your blanket gets pulled down, leaving your upper body without any protection. I love my life.
Still, as every sotry goes, there are always ups and downs in life. A combination of decisions, intereactions and dumb luck. Of maybe fate.
If life sits on a balance, maybe, my life is part of it. Happiness ensures sadness, and the other way round, in some ironic way. When good things happen they occur magically, when bad things happen they come in gangs.
Something i believe in - balance. Just as the human body (or any other body for that matter, be it mother nature, politics ... yada yada) balances itself naturally over time. Inputs, outputs and other causes being the variables, everything seems to show their own version of a balance.
The seemingly happiest people in the world always have something deep down inside which bites. Lurking deep down... ... this is going nowhere..
Life, simple, beautiful. Complicated, ugly. I shall get on with my story.
