Driving Test Tips

Happen to see Xuan coming to my camp on the 26th and i got a ride on a 'tonner' back to the east. (so cool huh, people sit merc i sit tonner) (*tonner is that gigantic 3 tonne military vehicle which somehow i always thought was called 'tunnel' when i was i tekong.. seems like one doesn't it? everybody can hide inside..)

cool to see u Xuan (*waves) after so long.. aniway Xuan was complaining about how i don't update my blog often enough (as many others also remind once in awhile) so yea.. heres my next entry~ =)

this is for all the people who are not drivers by NS vocation or in the police force and have to get their license the civilian way...

Driving Test Tips
(special thanx to aloysius who contributed quite abit =)

1. Call the tester "SIR", most of them are retired people from the police force (i think) or aniway all i have seen belong to a very old generation that i guess gets a kick from hierachy and respect. For those who have been through army, you should know, a little boot-licking goes a long way. So "yes sir" "no sir" "sorry sir" your way through the test.

2. If a thoughtful pedestrain signals for you to cross DON'T! Pedestrains have the right of way so remember to signal back to the pedestrain to cross first. Now thats a considerate driver (*pat pat)

3. Whatever you do don't break any traffic rules (the easiest being exceeding the speed limit, beating the red light, failing to give way to pedestrains when they are in the right)

4. Remember to signal and check blindspot before you move off should you kena "emergency break". Some people get to excited or forget what to do.

5. Before the test starts, always remember to lock the doors, wear seat belt.. you know

6. Some testers are fucked up and test your knowledge, example: ask you to change lane crossing double white lines. DON'T fall for their trap. Be attentive and you can just "remind" them there are double white lines. In other words, don't break any traffic rules.

7. The test is of your driving skills. For those driving Manual Cars show off your half clutch control especially in the circuit. Slow speed in the circuit is ok, the main thing is the tester should see your control over the car. Less control = More failure.

8. When on the road be SUPER considerate, its ok to drive slowly to give way to this and that. Be a super HAM JI (erm, easily scared?) driver but yet be careful not to get minus points for delayed moving off. Also be confident and check the mirrors and blind spots swiftly and periodically. MUST CHECK!!

9. If it is not your first test bring all your previous PDLs or stuff to show how many times u have taken the test. They tend to fail first timers...

10. If all else fails and the tester wants to fail you, try argueing (if you think he is unreasonable and he doesnt get angry with you) or when even more desperate Plead .. my friend aloysius told me of his friend who pleaded with the tester saying he needed the license for a job and the tester passed him.

11. Oh yah, wear formal! Shirts are best. short sleave with jeans will do. Be formal and NOT fashionable. Clean and intellectual looking is the best. Dont wear shoes that don't do well for the test.

12. Know what time is best to take the test in the area (for BBDC i recommend 2nd n 3rd session) It would be better to take the test in the morning as the testers have a maximum quota the number of passes allowed for the day. Actually alot of luck is involved also.

well, the main thing is be mentally prepared for it, drive carefully, safety checks all the time stay calm. Good luck!!
